'Football Fever' comes to Bracknell Forest
The Community Sports Foundation is pleased to announce that in partnership with Bracknell Forest Homes, Bracknell Town Council and Thames Valley Police it will be jointly funding a new initiative to be called Friday Football Fever. The programme seeks to promote opportunities for all members of the community within the Bracknell Forest area to develop skills and confidence through sport.
Wannabe Wayne Rooneys and budding Beckhams kicked off Friday Football Fever on Great Hollands recreation ground at the end of April 2010. Friday Football Fever is open to boys and girls aged 12 to 15 years old. Attendees will be supervised and coached by members of The Community Sports Foundations team over six weeks culminating in them taking part in a mini world cup tournament on Great Hollands recreation ground.
Sam Brierley, aged nine, has joined in the fun and said: "I enjoyed the football very much because the coaches are good. It is good to be part of a club to make new friends. I was pleased as I scored a goal and people cheered for me and said it was very good!"
Friday Football Fever is an exciting new project led by Bracknell Forest Homes with support from The Community Sports Foundation, Bracknell Forest Council, Bracknell Town Council and Thames Valley Police.
Linda Wells, Housing and Community Services Director, commented: "We are very excited about unearthing the football talent in Bracknell Forest and having our own world cup around the same time as the FIFA world cup. This is an exciting chance for young people to show off their skills and learn from experienced football coaches. The project is a great way to learn team building skills and make their confidence soar.
"Thank you to our partners who have been enthusiastic in supporting this dynamic new project. We hope this will be a successful development of our community initiatives which have already included providing opportunities for young people to produce a radio show and to go to Oakwood Youth Challenge, and this now creates opportunities for young people to get involved in sport."
The Community Sports Foundations Trustees would like to wish all participants the best of luck for the mini world cup and hope they enjoy and take full advantage of our coaches' skills and experience.
