When you look back at your education, what prepared you best for later life? Was it your academic achievements or was it the friends and personal skills you developed. What if you had been a shy child, struggling in silence at the back of a big class? Would you have been able to realise your potential without extra help?
AFTER THE BELL argues that the chance to take part in out of school hours activities should not be restricted to children whose parents or schools can afford to pay for them. Activities like sports clubs all raise the aspirations of young people and help them to build vital skills.
The Foundation is actively encouraging schools and other organisations to apply to us to explore ways of increasing the availability of activities on offer to children and young adults outside of normal school hours. Whilst the programme cannot guarantee to finance outright activities we hope to work with applicants to find a fair balance and affordable way of maximising existing resources.
